Swedish newspaper: -Grimsby close in on Ring

Both Grimsby Telegraph and Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda (NA) today broke the news about Sebastian Ring being chased by Grimsby Town.

You can read what Grimsby Telegraph writes about the Swede here!

It’s understood that the out of contract Örebro player was three days in Grimsby last week together with his agent Jonathan Chalkias. The following story was printed at NA here! For the English readers have we tried to translate the story below.

ÖSK- back close on English league club
Sebastian Ring has, according to our information, visited Grimsby Town and a transfer to the English League Two club can be close.

Sebastian Ring has been out of contract since his contract with Örebro SK ran out at the end of November. Ring and ÖSK have been in talks since the summer, but the parts have failed to get a new contract deal.

Now unconfirmed information from England tells that Ring has been in England and visited the Swedish club Grimsby Town together with his agent. There is a Swedish connection to the club as they are trained by englishman Michael Jolley that last season managed AFC Eskilstuna in the Allsvenskan.

Jolley has been open about his intention to bring players in from Sweden. He has also confirmed that he will be active during the winter window to strengthen the club.

One player with a past in Sweden is Andrew Fox that used to play for AFC Eskilstuna last season. Fox is a left back in Grimsby, but is rumoured to leave in January.

His replacement could possibly be Sebastian Ring.

Grimsby Town was formed already in 1878 and played in the English league system until 2010 when they relegated to level five. It took some time for Grimsby to climb back. First in the 2016/17 season were they finally back in League Two.

Grimsby Town are now number 18 of 24 teams in League Two.

We have tried to reach out to Sebastian Ring for a comment.

Whom is he?
Ring is a versatile left footed defender. This season he played a lot as the left centre back in a 3-4-3, but he has earlier played as a wing back. However he played as a central midfielder during his whole youth career.

After his breakthrough has the 23 year old played 67 of 90 league games during the last three seasons for ÖSK in the Swedish top flight, Allsvenskan.

Last summer he got a contract offer, but wasn’t pleased with the offer. The club had however hopes that he would had returned to the training field last week, but Ring was nowhere to be seen. According to reliable sources close to the club was he then three days in Grimsby instead.
